Disney World Wait Times, Dining and Maps by Undercover Tourist Review

You know what I love? Thing's that make my life simple.  Nowadays, the first thing I always do when planning a vacation or weekend trip is check to see if there is an app that can help me out.  I usually end up buying 3-5 different ones and then weed out the crap apps.

The real beauty is I can share that info with you guys.

This year we were heading to see the big mouse--Disney World! Undercover Tourist has created a masterpiece when it comes to tackling The Magic Kingdom and its related properties.

I am not even really sure what to call the app because the title is so long.  Maybe they really really wanted you to know everything the app can do all in the title, or maybe the title is just a clever way to game the app store search engine. Nevertheless, the app accomplishes more than any other Disney travel guide out there, justifying all those letters.

What used to take all kinds of pamphlets, foldable maps, and going to the restaurant to see the menu is now packaged in a well-designed app.  I was able to plan every aspect of our trip from my phone.

We used the park hours, parade times, and crowd forecaster to lay out our daily schedule for the week.  I was able to check out all the restaurant menus to make sure everyone would be happy with where we would be eating for the day.  Once inside the park, we used the built in maps with the ride wait times all very clearly visible to lay out the day's game plan and optimize our fast passes.  No more running back to the big board to find out Rock 'n' Roller Coaster had a 90 minute wait, or even worse getting there only to find the ride shut down.  For our trip, the wait times were fairly accurate. Depending on the day and number of people updating this could really fluctuate, but Undercover Tourist is working on giving people incentives to keep things as close as possible.  So this will get more and more accurate as more people use their smart phones.

The app also really takes advantage of what the iPhone can do. You can GPS tag your car, so you don't wander around those big parking lots after a long day at the park.  You can make a group of iPhones, and then use the GPS to find each other in the park. The map locator can tell you exactly how far you are away from the next ride. They just added in a few games too, which truthfully was unnecessary.  They where hoping to keep you and the kids occupied while in line, but come on, thats what Angry Birds is for.

$3.99 to help me get the most out of an expensive vacation is well worth it.

I will conclude with just this simple equation:

Disney World + iPhone + Undercover Tourist (really long title) = no brainer
