NCAA March Madness: Your Tournament Pocket Companion

If you're an iPhone review site based out of Kentucky, you would be pretty much beaten viciously over the head if you didn't review this app. As I enjoy my functioning brain, I'll give it a go.

The NCAA March Madness app is designed to be your one-stop-shop for all things basketball. And when you look at the features, you can see how this is a must-have app for b-ball fans.

All the basics are there. You can look at brackets, create your own bracket, and quickly check scores. More than that, though, the app gives you a constant, real-time feed of news, and you can even watch highlight clips from games.

But all of that is just window dressing. The real reason you'd pay a whopping $9.99 for this app is the live streaming.

Any game, all the time. If they're playing, you can watch. Just go into the live scoreboard (another great way to keep up) and any active game will have a "watch now" icon next to it. After buffering, the game begins to play full-screen.  It's awesome...

Unless your internet connection is less-than-stellar.  If you're trying to serve the game via 3G, you can pretty much forget about it.  I've even had trouble with somewhat unreliable wi-fi connections.  Luckily, the app has a built-in feature to help you out.  If the app is having trouble streaming a game, it will automatically switch over to an audio-only feed.  Not the full-motion video we'd want, but if you are unavoidably out and about and still want to keep up with your favorite teams, it's an awesome feature.

As far as design and interface goes, this one is top notch, and the streaming, when it works, makes this app well worth the somewhat hefty price tag.  Unfortunately there is no option to watch games after the fact...it's live or nothing.  That would be a great little feature, but I'm guessing it is not included due to copyright rules.  Which, incidentally, is the reason this isn't an awesome video review.

It's out of my hands.  Don't hate the playa, hate the game.

Yeah, the streaming improved later in the day, but it was still in-and-out with edge.
