iTextSpeed: Maximize the efficiency of your constant, annoying texting!

Somewhere in the world there is a person whose dream in life is to become the best iPhone texter he/she possibly can. To be able to surf the net like no other, and to write entire novels in the "notes" application.

Wherever you are, my dear friend, this one's for you.

iTextSpeed encourages us all to become even more addicted to our iPhones by giving us a forum to evaluate and improve the speed and accuracy of our iPhone typing.

Launch the "play" mode and a keyboard pops up with a number of words across the top of the screen. Type in each word individually and hit "enter" to submit. If you got the word right (auto-correct is in-effect, of course, to illustrate your real-world skills), the word turns green. Get it wrong and you're faced with a big red box.

At the end of your trial, a screen pops up to tell you how you did, including the number of words correct, the number of words incorrect, your adjusted words per minute, and a spiffy graph that shows how you progressed throughout the game.

You can change settings, including changing the length of time of the "game" from anywhere between 15 seconds to two minutes and changing the keyboard orientation from landscape to portrait.  That's right, you can practice texting in both high-quality iPhone keyboard modes.

This is a pretty spiffy idea and, nuts and bolts wise, it's done well.  Still, I'd like to see someone take this idea and run with it.  Give me a game to go along with it! Give me cute sound effects or some other way to track my progress (there is an internal history tab, but it does little more than give you your best and average scores).

The other features on this one are twitter feeds and facebook connects that are barely worth mentioning, especially for a texting "game."

I can see this one helping you up your typing speed, but with a few tweaks it could ALSO be a lot of fun.

I guess for $0.99 I shouldn't complain too loudly.  And the app definitely does what it says it will, providing a forum for people to practice texting and track their progress.

Of course my Mom, who sees texting as the fall of Western Civilization, would not approve.  But that's just because she can't break 20 words a minute.
