YetiSports: Because who doesn't love hitting penguins with a mallet?!?

When I used to play this game via flash on the computer, I told myself, "Son (yes, I call myself son), one day you'll be able to take this with you, in your pocket.  And you can abuse penguins any time you want."

I have been patient, and now my time has come.  YetiSports Pingu Throw (listed as YETISPORTS 1 in the iTunes store) lets me hit the helpless birds with reckless abandon.

You've probably played this game before.  You are, not surprisingly, a yeti who wields a large club.  By tapping the screen, you swing said club and hit a falling penguin.

Then there's a total reality shift.  You actually BECOME the penguin (I know it's trippy, but bear with me). Then, in an added feature not available in those primitive flash versions I used to play, you tilt the phone in order to angle your penguin and try and catch as much air as possible, gliding your way to victory.

Bounce off of sea gulls to propel yourself farther and catch fish to increase your final score.

Score is what it's all about, but the game is really just fun to play in order to blow off some steam.  There is a "level" mode (in which you have to catch a certain number of fish to advance) and a "classic" mode (without the bells and whistles), but the whole thing still kind of feels like a simple "get the high score" kinda game.  Ain't nothing wrong with that.  

The music, sound effects, and fun, cartoon graphics are all top-notch and make this game as cute and cuddly as it is fun.  If ever there was a way to make abusing penguins sweet and coo-worthy, this is it.

It's fairly priced at $1.99, but it does kind of feel like it might fit better in the $.99 range.  Still, the design elevates it a bit above the traditional app store clutter.  I guess it just costs a little extra for the right to abuse some gliding birds.
