Start Mobile - Art for your iPhone

WG-ICON-HDRWG-ICON-SMLooking for a unique look for your iPhone? Want to support new and underground artists? Start Mobile is your answer.

WG-0

Start Mobile has a growing list of wallpaper gallery apps on the iTunes store.  For $.99 you get a collection of wallpapers (usually 5 to 9) from a single artist.

These applications are extremely basic, but it's all about delivering the art.  The app lets you scroll through the pieces just like the built in Photos app.  Flipping the piece over gives you more information about the artist, and flipping the last piece usually reveals a coupon that can be redeemed at the Start Mobile website.

Then there is a button that lets you save the wallpaper to your photo gallery.  Pretty simple.  To be honest, it's not the app that stands out here; it's the quality and variety of the art it is distributing.

WG-1I find this idea truly exciting and applaud Start Mobile for putting these apps out there. But I know what you're thinking."Why pay when you can get so much stuff for free?"

Two reasons: the cost is right, and it's all about the artists.  For $.99 you get a lot of high quality, original wallpapers.  I don't think that price is too much to ask, and if enough people pitch in their buck we can really support some truly talented artists.

Besides, downloading a single wallpaper from your carrier used to cost a lot more back in the day.  Why not spend some pocket change to get original images that can really, truly be classified as old-school art?

Check out all the artists at Start Mobile's Website
