The fine folks at X-Road recently sent us a PND with the latest build of the G-Map software. The voice guidance and landscape mode in this build is what we will be seeing AND hearing on our iPhones this June.So, if you've had any doubts about G-Map for the iPhone, take a peek at this preview. It will without a doubt, change your mind. No monthly fees, free upgrades and voice guidance on the horizon??

Wll we have to pay for an upgrade iif we have 3.0 and wanna update g-map from version 13.?
What happened to G-Maps. this video got me excited and than they release an update and it just add voice turn by turn. i was hoping for everything in this video they really let me down.
I just purchased the 1.3.1 version g map 4 days ago. But, I have no landscape mode, no split screen lane. It's there away to set in landscape mode?
So TapCritic, what gives? Do you have any official updates as to why XROAD did not release the G-maps software as you had shred with us a while back? I bought it for 34.95 and like it but as others posted it is nothing like what you shared. The latest release was July 2nd 2009. I would'nt expect an update anytime soon. Could they be waiting for iPhone release 3.1? Any info or updtae would be nice as many are asking about this application. Thanks
I put more of this on XRoads. To start the previous version was 1.3 and they just released 1.3.1 in July 2009, which indicates a minor update. I would expect that a release that includes landscape, major UI changes, voice prompt and spoken street names, contact support to be a 2.0 release. Don't get me wrong, it stinks, but put the blame on XRoads. You are probably correct, that you won't see the release that Tapcritic reviewed until the end of summer. Lastly, I doubt you will get a truthful answer from Tapcritic because of confidentiality agreements they make reviewers sign.
I won the giveaway and downloaded the software. Being late July, the updated reviewed and previewed on this site has not yet been released.
Thus, far I have found the earlier (still current) version quite unintuitive. I want it to work seamlessly with my 3GS. I'd like Routes to pull from my address book and or take current locations. I'd like auto flags of ATMs and/or Starbucks as I drive. I'd like to know when I hit POI for gas that I can get a number of listings with some reference as to which direction before I select (e.g., North or South to current position).
The features previewed look great and if they can incorporate (or I can find) the types of features I'm listing that are as intuitive to use as the review/video suggests they might be the app could be great. For now, unimpressed.
Still, thanks Mr. Pence. Your reviews have been helpful in my other purchase selections.
Thank you for the review of this App, but I wish that you would have followed it up with what the App really does. Your review had the "Text to Voice", but the current version on ITunes does not. It is a shame that this was not announced, unlike your group I had to purchase that product inorder to find out if it really works. Perhaps, as you have done with other "GPS" APPS you could have revisited this App as how it is sold...
