TouchSports Tennis - A Great 99¢ Serve.

ts_tennis_hdrtennis_iconTENNIS ON TV SUCKS.

I don't know what it is, I HATE watching tennis on television. But, I've always loved playing tennis games. I guess it started way back, smokin' my buddies on the Atari 2600 with Activision's Tennis.

So, I was pleasantly surprised to find TouchSports Tennis on the iTunes store for .99¢. Honestly, I was skeptical. Could a .99¢ tennis game be that good? It's got to be cheaply made, right? Common sense would tell you that it has to suck.

I'm here to tell you, TouchSports Tennis is probably one of the coolest apps for a buck that I have downloaded in a while. The graphics are nice, the gameplay is incredible and the sound effects are top notch. It's an awesome value and a fun ass game to play.

THE GAME.

Serving is easy and fun. You're going down!

You have a couple of different options to get you started, Quick Play and Tournament. Quick Play will get you started with random players on a random court. The Tournament mode allows you to choose from three different courts and six different players.

Serving is REAL easy, you tap the screen once to bring up the strength meter, then tap again to serve at the desired strength level.
To add some craziness to your serve, you can rotate your phone to move your player's position during the serve.

Rotate your phone to hit your ball in different directions. Rotate your phone to hit your ball in different directions.

Once the CPU has hit your serve, a red circle appears on your side of the court. This is the destination of the CPU's hit ball. You then simply tap the red circle to hit the ball. While this red circle is up, a yellow-orangish bar shows up on your opponents side of the court. This bar is represents the destination of your hit ball, to change the destination you simply rotate your phone either left or right.

Sound crazy? Well my description might, but the gameplay controls are efficient and easy to get used to. A ton of thought was put into the control scheme. You usually don't see that in a .99¢ game.

CONCLUSION.

Handheld Games has a real winner here. I highly recommend this game. It's a ton of fun and I find the controls better than Virtua Tennis on the PSP. The only thing I would like to see added are more players to choose from and a WiFi multiplayer mode. However, I'm not going to complain too much, because TouchSports Tennis is such an awesome game for the price. I'm hoping that Handheld Games have some more sports games in their que. Because I'll buy everyone of them.

Football maybe?

You can buy TouchSports Tennis HERE.
