X's & O's Football: I know someone out there loves you.

xofootball_header
xofootball_icon_smallI am not a football guy.  I'm not a sports guy at all, truth be told.  I mean, come on, I write for an iPhone app review site; my interests lean more toward geekdom.

Still, I enjoy a good sports game, and after Skyworks' QB Pass Attack proved so addictive, I was looking forward to their X's & O's Football game.  Unfortunately, this game is not for me.

First, I don't like football.  Second, I don't like football.  And third, I'm too young to have any nostalgia for this app.

See, the app mimics the old-school video football games.  You call up a play and watch as your simplistically animated football helmet players run your play.  Choose which player you'd like to pass to (with a tap), and hope for the best.  Choose a new play and repeat until you score or are taken back to the beginning.

It's a race against the clock as you play quarter by quarter.  The graphics are cute and the interface is simple but effective.  I just didn't enjoy it.  A huge part of that comes from the fact that I'm not good at it.

There are a few things that could make this app better, though.  While it is simple, it never hurts to have a directions section, which there isn't.

Also, I'd like the option to do running plays.  It's the 21st century, and video games, even on the iPhone, have progressed to where I should be able to have some control to run my QB forward if I choose.

Overall, the game is a little too repetitive and simplistic for me.  Not worth its $1.99 price tag.  I know there are football fans who might like strategizing plays, but against a computer, this all feels random and lacking.

Stick with QB Pass Attack.  If you are a nostalgic video football fan, though, you can buy X's & O's Football HERE.
