Uno iPhone: A classic (expensively) reborn.

uno_icon_smallUNO HISTORY

In 1971 Merle Robbins, a barber from Ohio, invented and designed the game Uno on his family's dining room table. His motive was to end an argument with his son about the rules of Crazy Eights. The rest is history.

uno_3 "You mean in the future, I'll play this on a PHONE?!"

I played Uno growing up as a child and LOVED it. I'd stay up late when I was 8 years old and play with my mom while Johnny Carson was on. Needless to say, this game has a lot of memories for me. I mean, It's Uno for Pete's sake! Now--fast forward to the future--I regularly get beat by my teenage daughter and my 9-year-old son.

UNO ON THE APP STORE

uno_2 Uno is well designed, from launch-screen and onwards.

When I first saw this on the iTunes App Store, it cost $7.99! I mean, I love Uno. But, $7.99? It has since been reduced to $4.99, and it is well worth it. However, I still think $1.99 is the sweet spot for this app.

THE iPHONE GAME

The game is great. It's Uno. The touch interaction is awesome, the graphics are great, and the sound is perfect. I love the ability to cancel in-game sound and choose music from your iPod library.

There are three different difficulties when you are playing against non-human opponents and three different multiplayer modes. The game is top notch, which is to be expected from the developer GameLoft.

CONCLUSION

I've been really impressed with GameLoft's programming and game design. This application is no different.

My only semi-complaint is the pricing of this app. I didn't mind paying $9.99 for Brothers in Arms: it's a kick ass FPS. However, the original $7.99 price for Uno was way off. I highly recommend this game if you are an Uno fan. However, I still think it's just a little overpriced at $4.99.
