Hitchcock – A Storyboard in your pocket.

HITCH_HDRHITCH_ICNOk, So I graduated college with a Broadcast Major and if you have been watching TapCritic, it’s quite obvious that I’m not an English Major. Well, to make along story short, my senior year in college we had to draw storyboards to sell our idea to some faux clients. Well, you see I can visualize… I just can’t draw. This was my last class and I needed the credit hours to pass. So, I had to end up going to someone in the art department to make my boards for me. While that’s no bad, some visualization was lost in the process.

I wish the iPhone was around then, because I would have used Hitchcock. Hitchcock is an amazing application that helps you visualize your short film or commercial. You can snap photos, add moves, duration, notes, audio and upload a PDF of your board when your finished. I cannot believe the power of this App. The scary thing is, there’s no desktop equivalent as far as ease of use and speed. Cinemek please make a desktop version!

The thing I LOVE about Hitchcock is the speed in which you can visualize your vision. You go to a location scout, snap a few photos, make some moves, scene descriptions and then send your client a PDF storyboard BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR LOCATION SCOUT.

Powerful. Very Powerful.

My only complaints? I LOVE the ability to record audio for each panel.. How about a way to download a :30 sound bed to cut too? Although this is a great tool for film and commercial work. I see this App used more for commercial production than film work. The ability to cut to a branded :30 or :15 audio track would be awesome. I love the ability to send a PDF of the boards to the client, but I’d like to be able to send a Quicktime of the board as well. A Quicktime WITH a board… Project is sold.

The price of Hitchcock is not for the novice. It’s $19.99. But, for broadcast and film professionals, it’s a drop in the bucket. Plus, there is NOTHIING else out there on the desktop that can compete with Hitchcock’s speed and ease of use. If you’re doing film or commercial work and you have an iPhone… You HAVE to buy this App or your competitors will. They will get the job because they were faster to visualize your idea.

Hitchcock is a game-changer.

This application seems so great, I would definitely buy it with the hope of making the storyboards publishable as video and with music or previously recorded score. Awesome.
