MobileNavigator – The GPS competition is heatin’ up.

Ever since I got the iPhone, I’ve been looking for that killer GPS app that won’t make me go out and buy a replacement for my fried MIO Digi-Walker. I mean seriously, the iPhone has all the hardware to do the task. But where are all the great written GPS software? G-Map from X-Road was an AWESOME replacement for my GPS needs, but it still lacked some of the other features that newer standalone GPS’s offer.
Well, enter MobileNavigator. The folks at NAVIGON have done an incredible job at their first attempt for an iPhone GPS application. The menu layouts are smart, they feel like a standalone GPS versus an iPhone GPS app. MobileNavigator seems more accurate than any other iPhone GPS offering. MobileNavigator seems to understand heading data better than my latest release of G-Map. When I turn right onto a street, so does MobileNavigator. The map views are nice, the menus are fast and once again this App FEELS like a standalone GPS

The ability to play music while navigating and still hear voice prompts for turns is nothing short but amazing. You get a call during your navigation? No problem, once your call is finished MobileNavigator will continue where it left off. The ability to take a POI and add it to your iPhone contacts is a great feature, as well as routing TO your contacts. The entire U.S. map data comes with this App for $69.99. You like having map data locally when you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere.
The folks at NAVIGON have done their homework, they currently have the best GPS turn-by-turn App out on the iTunes App store. We have loved G-Map here at TapCritic, but MobileNavigator has one-upped them in my opinion. Competition is good and it is always great for the end-user, so it will be interesting what kind of updates G-Map will be coming out with soon. I know TomTom is coming out soon and G-Map has some VERY awesome updates coming down the road, but RIGHT NOW MobileNavigator in my opinion is the best GPS turn-by-turn on the iTunes App store. My Ranking right now? MobileNavigator then G-Map. Whatever you do, stay FAR away from AT&T’s Navigator.
