Blockit! – or Bust.

With five difficulty levels to choose from ranging from Super Easy to Hard, Blockit! from Spendthrift Studios will keep you coming back trying to beat your own high score again and again.
The premise is super simple – you are tasked with protecting a bubble from the onslaught of attacking spikes. You must tap the screen to place blocks to repel the spike attacks and keep the bubble from being popped by them. Seems simple enough. However, the catch is that only three blocks can be placed at any one time. Once you tap the screen where you want to place the fourth block, the first block disappears. Therefore, it is a matter of strategically placing the defensive blocks to protect the bubble and timing when to place new ones.
When the spikes breach your defenses, the cute, catchy sound of a popping bubble is played. Once ten spikes strike your bubble, it’s Game Over. The game music sounds like 80s synth pop. Okay in short doses, in my opinion, though some reviews in the app store reflect that some people really dig the background tunes. I inevitably turned to my iPod for some better tunes — (sigh) much better! Make sure if you plan to listen to your iPod to turn the game music and sound FX off first as they are set as the default sounds for the game and will override your iPod once you start to play.
If you’re able to take your eyes off the bubbles and spikes for a moment you will see a bar across the top of the screen displaying your health status in terms of percentages. Immediately under the health status bar you will find your personal high score and your score for the current game displayed. The blocks are numbered so that you know which one will disappear when you place new blocks.
Blockit!, from Spendthrift Studios (developers of such apps as How To Text a Girl, How to Ace a Test, and Achoo!) is currently available in the iTunes App Store for 99 cents. Clear graphics and smooth animation make this a highly enjoyable game that will only occupy a meager 2.4 MB on your iPhone or iPod Touch running OS 3.0 or faster. Spendthrift Studios might just be one developer to watch as their first shot at developing an iPhone game seems to have been a success.
