To answer my own question: probably not. But this app, which streams every ABC television show to your iPad, is a good indicator of how video delivery is branching out to online and mobile devices in a very tangible and real way.

Sure, streaming video has been around for a while, but with services like Netflix and Hulu making serious strides forward, I think we’re going to see the delivery of streaming video take over our lives in the next few years. Looks like ABC is trying to get a leg up.

I’ve been waiting for an application like this for quite a while. What does it do? Simply put, it allows you to stream movies from your computer to your iPhone or iPod Touch over wi-fi. Out and about without a wi-fi connection? No worries…the app will stream to an iPhone via 3G. Check out how it works below.

I’ll be honest; I’ve never really been into comics. So when I heard that Marvel was releasing a comic reader on the iPad day one, I wasn’t too terribly exciting. Now, though, I’ve done a one-eighty.

This app lets you view comics in an unprecedented way. First, it takes advantage of the iPad’s big screen and gesture controls. Flipping through the full-page comic is easy.

But Marvel takes it a step farther, adding dynamic animation so you can flip through comics a frame at a time. It’s like watching a mini motion-graphic novel with each pane, but it allows the artwork of the original comic to stand alone and be appreciated.

In short, I’ll never want to look at a comic any other way again.

Earlier I did a video review of iVideoCamera, an app that lets you shoot video with an older iPhone. And while I liked that app, the frame rate seemed to be lacking. That problem seems to be solved with Qik VideoCamera. Plus the app is chock full of features, and it costs a scant $0.99. So if you’re trying to wait to upgrade your phone (like the behind-the-times Johnny5), you might want to check this one out.

It’s nice to take newfangled technology and use it to accomplish old tasks. Apps like “Light” and “Dual Level” help me accomplish things easily that used to require a very specific tool–they make my life easier and use the iPhone’s capabilities in ways nobody saw coming.

Now there’s another daily task that my iPhone can do. Instead of trolling the internet for soundboards and creating an elaborate system of speakers and plugs, I can now make prank phone calls easily, with one device. My work load just got cut in half!

There’s a reason this application has an entire category devoted to beaches.  No, it isn’t for the nice sunsets.

That’s just a reality of the internets.  Geeks (self included) enjoy looking at pictures of girls in bikinis.  And Live Cams, an application that streams camera feeds live to your phone from across the world, gives people a new and creepy outlet to indulge their voyeuristic fantasies.

Still, it’s a really cool idea, and there is something awesome about being able to see cameras from all around the world.  Add to that the fact that some cams are actually remote controllable, and this app is just too cool to ignore.

This game is a novelty.  Luckily, it knows it and has a lot of fun.

iHurt is the kind of game that’s meant to be played a few times and then forgotten.  It’s all about the “Grand Theft Auto” generation blowing off some steam by torturing one-dimensional cartoon characters.

The goal of this game is to rack up the biggest hospital bill possible by throwing your main characters down a hill and making them hit trees and rocks and other scary things. Let’s face it: it’s not the most mature of games.  But if you have an extra couple of bucks to spare (yeah, it is a little pricey for what it is), you might want to invest in this stress-reliever.

This application is going to be filed under goofy, novelty prank apps.  Which is a shame, because it’s actually useful.

The idea is that you can record audio, cut it up into pieces and rearrange it into embarrassing statements.  You can then share this file via email and a slew of social applications.

It’s great for joking around, sure, but what about recording scotch tracks for videos?  Making voice memos and arranging your stream-of-consciousness babbling into some coherent thought?  Yep, it will work for that too.  It’s easy to use and simple in its execution.  Not to mention that the design and interface are fairly easy on the eyes.

If you’re an iPhone review site based out of Kentucky, you would be pretty much beaten viciously over the head if you didn’t review this app. As I enjoy my functioning brain, I’ll give it a go.

The NCAA March Madness app is designed to be your one-stop-shop for all things basketball. And when you look at the features, you can see how this is a must-have app for b-ball fans.

All the basics are there. You can look at brackets, create your own bracket, and quickly check scores. More than that, though, the app gives you a constant, real-time feed of news, and you can even watch highlight clips from games.

But all of that is just window dressing. The real reason you’d pay a whopping $9.99 for this app is the live streaming.

Any game, all the time. If they’re playing, you can watch. Just go into the live scoreboard (another great way to keep up) and any active game will have a “watch now” icon next to it. After buffering, the game begins to play full-screen.  It’s awesome…

Unless your internet connection is less-than-stellar.  If you’re trying to serve the game via 3G, you can pretty much forget about it.  I’ve even had trouble with somewhat unreliable wi-fi connections.  Luckily, the app has a built-in feature to help you out.  If the app is having trouble streaming a game, it will automatically switch over to an audio-only feed.  Not the full-motion video we’d want, but if you are unavoidably out and about and still want to keep up with your favorite teams, it’s an awesome feature.

As far as design and interface goes, this one is top notch, and the streaming, when it works, makes this app well worth the somewhat hefty price tag.  Unfortunately there is no option to watch games after the fact…it’s live or nothing.  That would be a great little feature, but I’m guessing it is not included due to copyright rules.  Which, incidentally, is the reason this isn’t an awesome video review.

With the hyper-monetization of the iTunes store, an art form has been lost.  There really aren’t any more interesting and well-done novelty apps anymore.

But wait! What’s that?  Beer 99 Bottles proves me wrong?  IT CAN’T BE!

But it is.  This app serves no function and isn’t going to stay on your iPhone long, but it’s a cool and well-done concept.  Just push your slider across the screen to hear computerized voices sing “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall”….with a multiplier of 10 to the 23 power.

It’s a math geek’s dream, and the “time” and “number” breakdowns are genuinely interesting.  At least in passing.

Did you know I’m a movie fanatic?  Old films, new films, silly films and serious films…I love them all.

So it should come as no surprise that I own the DVD-based board game “Scene It?”  It should also come as no surprise that I was psyched when “Scene It?” came to the iPhone.

It’s a very straightforward but well-done port, filled with movie clips, puzzles, quotes, and questions.  My one biggest complaint?  I wish there were a harder mode that could do a better job at stumping us geeks.

I’m not a true believer in horoscopes. While their “wisdom” can be helpful for everyday life, I usually ascribe their value to coincidences or subconscious projections and not to the relative positions of the planets and stars.

Still, I like to have a couple of horoscope apps handy for amusement with friends. Up until now I was all about iScopes, but I decided to give Horoscopes and Tarot a try. The verdict? While the app does have some cool features (like automated Tarot readings), the horoscopes, themselves, are pretty damn cheesy and limited.

The interface is great and the content is okay, but I doubt this will become anything more than a novelty.  With other horoscope apps I can get detailed readings or horoscopes specific to every conceivable facet of my life…this one just doesn’t hack it.  But at least it’s free.

You know my love for retro gaming… So, you canunderstand how pumped I was when I heard Revolutionary Concepts was coming out with Cobra Command. I’m here to tell you, if you grew up in the LaserDisc arcade genre, this game is a must have. I know some of you younger guys and gals would classify this as just another rail game, but keep in mind this came out in 1984.

The reason why I loved Cobra Command over Dragon’s Lair or Space Ace, was the ability to actually “Target” enemy foes. You simply didn’t just move up, down, left or right. Cobra Command felt more interactive.

Revolutionary Concepts has done an incredible job cleaning up the old film from the original LaserDisc and updating the overlay graphics. The gameplay is a ton of fun and I actually forgot how challenging Cobra Command was, at least I’m not pumping in a $1 every time I die.

Do yourself a favor, check out the best LaserDisc translated title for the iPhone, you wont regret it.

I’ve got to say, Mobad Games has done a TERRIFIC job with Highlights Hidden Pictures. The music is great, the pinch-pull interaction with the picture is perfect and my younger children love it! Eight puzzles come standard and the layout of this app looks like something you might see on a tablet one day.

I do have a few complaints, it looks WAY to easy to purchase other puzzles with in-app purchasing. You probably want to hang out with your child while they are playing this, just in case they click on the “More Puzzles” icon, and end up buying ALL the puzzles they want. Couldn’t this option be in a “Parents” icon? I’m hoping Apple will set some standards for in-app purchasing for children’s applications. My other complaint? The extra puzzle add-on’s cost as much as the app! The application is priced at $1.99, which I think is a great value for this app. Couldn’t the add-on’s be 99¢?

If you have a child under 8, they will have an absolute blast playing Highlights Hidden Pictures. This is a top-notch, great quality educational title. I just wish the folks over at Mobad Games would have handled the in-app purchasing a little different.

I’m fairly new to twitter. To be honest, I’ve always been a bit of a facebook kind of guy. Lately, though, I’ve come to admire twitter’s simplicity and versatility. The service cuts out a lot of bells and whistles and instead gives users control.

And there are a lot of ways to harness the power of twitter. On the iPhone, one of the best twitter clients is called Tweetie 2, a paid update to the original Tweetie application. While there are a couple of features missing (where’s the multiple group option??), it still gives users great control over their tweets on the go.

I love the ability to respond to people via the @ feature, the ability to look at direct messages, and, more than anything, the ability to add multiple twitter accounts that can easily be navigated from the home screen.

If you’re twitter obsessed, this one is a must have. Let us know in the comments if you know of an iPhone twitter client that does more. We’re always open to finding better options.

So, I love bouncy balls. And my son loves bouncy balls. And we both love Bouncy Maze from developer, KandyApps. You have a bouncy ball and a maze full of star-filled passageways. The object is to tilt your iPhone or iPod Touch in the direction you want to bounce the ball. Move the ball from the beginning of the maze to the end as quickly as you can, while “collecting” as many stars as possible along the way. Watch out for those false passageways that lead to a dead-end!

Each time your ball hits a star and “collects” it, you hear a cute little dinging noise (reminiscent of the coin-collection sounds in the Mario Bros. games from Nintendo) and rack up some points on your score. Reach the 10-pointed yellow star block (or the red brick block in later levels) to move on to the next maze. Complete all 30 progressively more difficult levels to win the game, and then do it all over again to try to beat your high scores! The color of the stars will give you a hint. They subtly change color throughout the maze. (HINT: The bright green ones are near the end of each level) Once you complete Level 30 the screen flashes “YOU WIN” and some colorful fireworks appear — then it’s time to scribble your name on the high score wall for all to see.

This app has a very clean look, smooth animation, and great color choices on the backgrounds. Another very nice feature is that no matter where you leave off in the game, you can pick right up at the same spot the next time you launch the application, or opt to start the game all over back at level one if you’re not satisfied with your progress.

Beat that, sucka!!!

Double-tap the screen to access the menu where you can opt to start a new game, access the High Scores page, or toggle the sound on or off.  This is KandyApps‘ first game for the iPhone. My son & I have proclaimed it a HIT! A huge thumbs up to the developers at KandyApps for a very enjoyable game.

Bouncy Maze will occupy 0.9 MB on your device, is compatible with iPhone and iPod touch (2nd generation), and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later. For 99 cents, this is a must-have game. Your kids will love it … and you’ll like it all right, too.
