The reader utilizes scrolling text to accompany the voice recording of classic literary works of fiction such as the Beatrix Potter collection of children’s stories, including Peter Rabbit, and Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice, among thousands of other titles. Traveling Classics began by utilizing volunteer recordings through the Librivox Project and is continually adding more and more new titles of classic literature. Most titles are available for 99 cents, though there are always some that are free of charge. You can also enter your email address to receive updates and be entered into a monthly drawing for a free audiobook download.

The interface is bare-bones, no frills — just plain easy to use. Collections of stories or individual chapters are presented in list form. Just click a story or chapter and the reader automatically starts playing while the words scroll along to the recording for those who like to read along.

The reader automatically bookmarks your place in the selection when you exit; the next time you open the reader simply click the green Resume bar along the bottom of the screen to be taken back into the story right where you left off.

The developers boast thousands of hours of reading and listening pleasure. So far my experience with this application has been very pleasurable and I’m looking forward to many more hours spent listening to classic literary works in the future.
