RockBand – Almost perfect.

We are HUGE Rockband fans here at TapCritic. So, when RockBand was released on the iTunes App store, we immediately downloaded it. I’ve personally been a huge Harmonix fan since Karaoke Revolution, so I was hoping RockBand on the iPhone would be lights out. The first thing we noticed was the inability to play multiplayer via WI-FI. The BlueTooth works incredibly well, I just can’t believe there’s not a WI-FI option. Why leave out all the first gen iPod Touch users?

The gameplay is great and if you have played RockBand on a console before, you’ll feel right at home. The normal instruments are here such as Guitar, Bass Drums and Vocals. The Vocal portion is a REAL letdown… Instead of actually singing, it’s all touchscreen based. I know the iPhone HAS to have the horsepower to handle taking in vocals and measuring pitch. Why did they leave this out? I’m hoping EA and Harmonix will fix this in a future update.
On to the positives, there’s great Facebook integration, World Tour is a blast, the songlist is great and you have the ability to purchase new songs. The bottom line, if you love RockBand on a console, you’ll love playing it on your iPhone or iPod touch. There are a few shortcomings, but it’s still worth the $9.99.
You can buy RockBand HERE.
