Need For Speed Undercover – Am I playing this on a console?

nfs_hdrnfsu_icnAs I’m sitting here writing this review, all I can think about is modding my Firebird. Why? Because Electronic Arts has released the BEST accelerometer based racing game to the iPhone.

Need For Speed Underground is gonna be a hit on the iTunes App store once the word gets out. This is not a “lite” version of a console game, EA is not just name dropping a franchise title like Konami did with Metal Gear Solid Touch. Nope, this is the real deal. This game “feels” like your playing on a console.

As soon as you launch this title, it screams quality. The menus, graphics, sound and cut scenes reinforce the fact you are playing a top-tier title. The actors in the cut scenes are a little cheesy, but that’s the ONLY negative observation that I have had.

This game "feels" like a console title.

Most accelerometer racing games seem to be “touchy”, or you the player seem to overcompensate to disaster. Not with NFS, EA has done a remarkable job not only with the steering controls, but with braking and boosting as well. Please take my word for it, the driving controls for NFS are the BEST I have seen yet.

The ability to customize your cars with money you have earned from racing, once again, makes this game “feel” big.

No, I'm not going through a mid-life crisis.

No, I'm not going through a mid-life crisis.

The framerate is FAST and the textures are incredible. Did I mention the steering kicks ass? The storyline helps to move you through this game, like most great console games do and this experience is a welcomed addition to the iPhone. I cannot stress how console like this game feels.

So to repeat, the controls are great, the graphics are great, the music is great…

What are you still doing here?

Go buy the BEST driving game for the iPhone. That honor now lies with Need for Speed Undercover.
