Zombie Attack! Killing the undead is HARD!

So, it’s common knowledge that there are two types of zombies in the world. There are the slow, methodical, creeping zombies, and there are the crazy, wild running zombies.
This game has them both. I’m sold.
Zombie Attack! by IUGO is what my friends like to call a “tower defense” game. In other words, you set weapons and obstacles in order to protect your “tower,” which in this case is a rundown shack. Your obstacles are guns, cannons, flame throwers, and axes.
When I found out the nature of the game, I was skeptical. I’d heard of these things going on for days and days with people methodically building an arsenal that is impenetrable. I was relieved, though, to find that Zombie Attack is an addictive and fast-paced game.
You are a character simply called “the survivor.” You run around the screen setting up weapons that you buy from some unknown source using money that is paid to you in exchange for killin’ some undead. The premise is kind of silly…but who cares. They have to create some kind of limitation on how much protection you can build at one time.
The zombies come immediately, and I was happy to find some variety in my zombies. There are fat zombies that lumber and skinny zombies that run. There are zombies without arms, and zombies without heads who just kind of wander around aimlessly.
The controls are simple and well done, with “tilt” and “touch” options for controlling your character.
While AI isn’t really a factor here (come on, they’re zombies!), the programming is pretty good with the zombies changing direction whenever they see your survivor character and his tastey brain.
Each time you buy a new weapon, the price increases for the next weapon. We don’t really know why; it’s best not to ask too many questions. You can also use your funds to upgrade current weapons–which turns out to be the smarter move much of the time.
When your zombies penetrate your defenses long enough to bring down your shack, the game is over.
And that’s it. A very simple game. There are a couple of small programming flaws (I’ve gotten stuck next to the shack and been unable to move before, necessitating a game restart), but they are few and far between. Definitely not enough to warrant not recommending this application.
Be warned, though, it will suck up large chunks of your life as you attempt to beat your high score. Proceed with caution.
It’s hard to find a better value for $.99, and if you are a cheap bastard there is a free version available, as well. Check it out and see if you have what it takes to slaughter the masses of undead.
