Light: That’s right, I’m reviewing Light.

Today I will be talking about Light, by Erica Sadun. It is exactly what it sounds like…a very small, simple app that, when activated, turns your entire iPhone screen into a single, white light source. This is, of course, useful when you are navigating a dark basement to hunt vampires or hooking up intricate electronic equipment behind a piece of furniture.
At first I balked at this idea. But I have used it more times than I ever expected. It’s simple and goofy, but useful.
If you look on the app store, you will see multiple light programs. Some actually cost money. That is silly. Don’t pay; there are plenty of free light apps on the store.
I am having trouble finding mine, actually; maybe it is gone forever? No matter, all of the apps have the same simple idea. No bells or whistles, but a nice app to have at the ready if need be. It just helps to have the brightest possible display always one button-click away for when you need it.
My only complaint is that I keep my display brightness turned down, and the light application is dimmer because of it. I wish there was some way for this app to bypass the iPhone setting and give me full illumination when I turned it on instead of having to go into the settings and pump my brightness. It’s a small gripe, and one that might not be able to be fixed. Ah well.
Be a boy scout and always be prepared. Light is good.
[Note: This app was available on the iTunes App Store at one time, but it has since been removed by Apple due to violations of the SDK. Apparently, she hacked the phone to increase the brightness of the screen beyond the set standards. This is a loss, since this was the single brightest "Light-type" app available. There are still several other options available through the store that serve the same purpose. -ed.]
